New research from law firm Barcan+Kirby as part of its Citizen 2025 whitepaper, which was launched recently shows that under 55’s are not expecting to work into their 70’s.

This comes in contrast to the Government’s announcement today that it is reviewing the state retirement age and speculation that people could work until they are 75.

In a poll of 2,003 UK adults, conducted on behalf of Barcan+Kirby by Opinium, when asked ‘At what age do you expect to retire?’

18 – 34 year olds:

  • 23% expect to retire between age 61 & 65
  • 25% expect to retire between age 66 & 70
  • 11% expect to retire between age 71 & 75
  • Only 8% expect to work past age 75
  • 34 – 55 year olds:
26% expect to retire between age 61 & 65
  • 30% expect to retire between age 66 & 70
  •

8% expect to retire between age 71 & 75
  •
Only 8% expect to work past age 75
